DAKON MEDIA BY VISTA LOLA

Dakon Multiplication as Media In Teaching Mathematics

               One of the traditional games that will be used as a media for learning mathematics is the traditional dakon game to improve understanding of the concept of multiplication in elementary school students. Basically, the concept of multiplication is a recurring addition concept. Dakon is a traditional game that has been around for a long time. The traditional game of dakon is very young to be played and can train fine motor manipulation skills, train concentration, educate children's sportsmanship, train the ability to organize strategies, learn to count tools, train 2-side coordination. The traditional game-based learning model "dakon" was developed to make students understand how to operate multiplication easily.

Purpose and Benefits of the game DAKON MULTIPLICATION:

A. To apply traditional dakon games to mathematics learning.

B. Can improve students' ability to operate multiplication.

C. Can preserve traditional games and introduce children today to traditional games.

D. Can reduce student anxiety when learning mathematics.

E. Can foster students' interest and enthusiasm in learning mathematics

How to use the media:

               Congklak game is a game played by two people. The tools used are made of wood or plastic shaped like a boat with a length of about 75 cm and a width of 15 cm. At both ends there is a hole called the parent. Between them there is a hole smaller than the parent with a diameter of about 5 cm. Each row has 7 holes. In each small hole, 7 shells or seeds are filled. The way to play is to take the seeds that are in our side hole then fill the seeds one by one into the hole that is passed including our main hole (left main hole) except for the opponent's main hole, if the last seed falls in a hole where there is another grain, then the grain is taken again to continue filling the next hole. And so on until the last seed falls into an empty hole. If the last seed falls into an empty hole, it is the opposing player's turn to play the game. This game ends when the seeds in the small hole have been collected. The winner is the child who collects the most grain into his parent hole. This game is a means of managing strategy and accuracy.

How to use dakon media in teaching:

               In learning mathematics, the material of multiplication and division with this dakon game does not use standard rules in the dakon game, but the rules are modified and adjusted to the needs for the purpose of achieving the competence of students about carrying out multiplication and division operations, as follows: (1) the game is carried out by two people students (pair groups); (2) Each group takes 100-150 grains of grain, or gravel, marbles, shells, etc. (3) in this game, group members work together and compete.

One group member holds and plays, while one other member gives questions, writes answers, and evaluates his friends who are playing. For example: 7 x 5 =….

Done by steps:

(1) a dakon player, takes 5 seeds and inserts them into the holes 7 holes / times

(2) then calculated by adding up the contents of all the holes = 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 35;

(3) the player says the answer is 7 x 5 = 35, and the friend writes it on the student worksheet;

(4) the assessor gives a score, and so on until all the questions are finished;

(5) after the game completes five questions and gets a score, then the game is played alternately with different questions;

(6) the game is over, each group reports the results of the game to the teacher.

So, benefits of learning through the traditional dakon / congklak game, it can improve students' ability to understand the concept of multiplication and division and can improve students' ability to perform multiplication and division operations.

Traditional Game "Ular Naga" For Learning Media

Traditional Game "Ular Naga" For Learning Media

With today's developments, many children prefer to play games on cellphones, computers and others or games that can be done alone without friends. Increasingly, this can make them become individualistic individuals. They become reluctant to communicate with others and also with their surroundings. Even though socializing is important for children's development. In old Jakarta, land was still available. Children can also socialize with each other through the various games they play together. One of them is the dragon snake game. This traditional game must be done in groups with more than four participants. The more you play, the more fun the game will be.

How to play

The children gathered in a line. Among them, three children who were large and skillful in speaking were selected. One of the game's charms is in the dialogue they engage in. Two of them will be the "gates". The other becomes "mother" for the other line of children. Children line up holding the "tail" (the child's shirt or waist in front of it). "Mother" is at the very front in the line. The “gate” was then made by the two children who had been selected earlier. They stood facing each other, raised their hands, and clasped each other to form a tunnel through which the line of children would pass. The lines began to move along with the song they sang together. Circular movement to and fro. The dragon snakes (children's line) will walk through the “gate” that stands in the middle of the courtyard accompanied by a song sung together. When the chanting ends, the child who is in the back row is "captured" by the "gate".

The "mother" with the children who are still loyally lined up behind her will have a dialogue and argue with the "gate" regarding the child who was arrested. This dialogue is often fun and funny, especially for young children. Even being in the line of children, for children aged 5 years and above, is already fun for them. Often times these arguments made the children laugh at each other.

Until in the end, if the "parent" wins the dispute with the "gate", then he can take back the child who was caught. However, if he loses, then the child will be placed behind one of the "gates" based on his choice.

Song

The songs are sung as below, but also with other songs.

Ular naga panjangnya bukan kepalang Menjalar-jalar selalu kian kemari Umpan yang lezat, itu yang dicari Kini dianya yang terbelakang

How do you use the game "snake and ladder" for learning media, especially English?

If in the game after the last child is arrested there will be "arguments", that too can be done, if the English skills are very good. But if you are still a beginner or not yet advanced. The last person arrested will only be asked questions with the adjusted material. For example: state 5 vocabulary words related to the body. If they can answer they will be free, if not then they will be asked to choose between the “gate” left or “right”.

Benefits of Dragon Snake Game

1. learn to be social and creative

2. teaches to work together and work hand in hand so that one another does not escape and miss the twisting motion of the dragon snake.

3. Can learn to regulate emotions to remain in cohesiveness.

4. This game can also train the motoric condition of the child because he will move around doing sports together.

FUN TRADITIONAL GAME FROM INDONESIA, BEKEL

Bekel(jacks),  a fun traditional game from indonesia

This is the equivalent of western jacks, and is commonly played by Indonesian girls. The shape of the bekel differs from the western jacks in that they are flat with a small bridge holding the two sides together. On the upper side of the biji bekel there is a small red dot that is called the pit. The under side of the bekel is called a roh. On one of the flat sides of the biji bekel there are small indentations or dots and the other side is smooth.

How to play ?

When the game is started, the biji bekel are all held in the hand of the player and are dropped as the ball is allowed to bounce one time. The player then starts to play by attempting to pick up the biji bekel one at a time without disturbing any of the other biji bekel within the time that it takes the ball to bounce once.

If the player successfully has picked up all of the bekel, he then drops them again and starts the second set of the game. In this set he must attempt to position the biji bekel with the pit facing up again one at a time. This action must be completed while the player throws the ball in the air and allows it to bounce one time. The player must attempt to turn over the bekel without moving any of the other bekel.

If the player completes this successfully, he then picks up the biji bekel one at a time while throwing the ball in the air until he has all of the biji bekel in his hand. He then drops them all again and now picks the biji bekel up two at a time and then three at a time, etc. until he picks up all the biji bekel with one sweep of the hand.

He drops them again and now starts the roh set. The player must attempt to turn over all the biji bekel so the roh side is now facing up. It is permitted to pick up more than one group of the set number while the ball is being thrown in the air. For example if the player is picking up groups of two while the ball is being thrown in the air, he may grab three groups of two bekel. The action of grabbing a set number of bekel is called cek.

If the player moves any of the biji bekel that he is not attempting to pick up, or if he drops any of the biji bekel in his hand, he loses his turn and it goes to the next player. A skilled player can go through many sets of the game before he makes a mistake and has to turn the bekel over to the next player. The player that completes the most sets without making a mistake is considered the winner of the game.

The benefits of this game

Playing Jacks is absolutely brilliant for boosting kids’ hand and eye coordination. It demands quick responses and sharp movements. They will need to have a steady hand as they have to pick, turn, and grab the biji bekel one at a time or all at once.

Once they’ve got the hang of it, they will want to play over and over again to get faster and better at it, and catch all the bekel faster than their friends can. It can be played anywhere – it’s best to play it on the floor outside so that you don’t have to worry about the ball and bekel bouncing off the edge of a table.
